Great to see that things are working out. Is the test over there very stringent? I would really like to get mine tested and road legal in the next few months, and don't really know what to expect. I think I'll have to get some advice from our local Classic Car Club. What I do know is that I need to get a certificate from a garage that the brakes work, otherwise I can't get the temporary license to drive the car to it's test. Anyway, my weekend saw things finally come together on my car. A friend came over last week and we replaced one of the brake cylinders. My suspicion turned out to be correct; it had a seized piston which prevented me from adjusting the brakes the last time I tried. After that I bled and adjusted the rear brakes. Then, finally, the car moved under its own steam for the first time in about six months. Some of you may possibly remember that I wrote about some strange problems I was having then; the engine was cutting out when I put it in gear, and also when I braked. Since then I have finally fixed the carbs properly and also installed a new distributor and fuel pump, and there was no sign of any of the previous trouble. the engine rpm went down very little (but quite noticeably) when I put it in gear, and back up again when I put it in park or neutral. I only drove a few meters, but it started instantly, drove off when I put it into gear, and stopped when I pressed the pedal. The pedal seemed firm, but a little low, so I will try adjusting the rear brakes again. They were after all completely out of adjustment (dismantled) before and the books say that in these circumstances it may need a couple of attempts to get it right, (added to my lack of expertise). I think another indication that the brakes need further adjustment is that the handbrake, which is working now for the first time, is pretty feeble. Even though immediately after I adjusted the brakes the handbrake stopped the wheels (which were in the air) completely, after the brakes had actually been used to stop the car a few times I could actually push the car a bit with the handbrake on, although there was obviously some resistance because it moved much easier with the handbrake off. How good is the handbrake supposed to be? Anyway, I really feel now that I am in the last stretch before actually getting the car on the road!
