This has been covered MANY times here: Holes cut in the pulley housing for the compressor belt admit hot air into the engine cooling air, increasing the heat load on the engine. The air cleaner must be repositioned to make room for the compressor. This usually results in a leaky air cleaner installation with poor filtering as a result. Running the AC in hot weather adds load to the engine at the worst possible time. Cutting holes in the body for the Freon lines creates entry points for water and rust. The under dash unit makes future dash repairs almost impossible. You can't even reach the fuse box. The condensor obstructs the under side of the front axle so you can't get in there to service anything. Russ confirms that dealer experience was that AC cars came back for engine rebuilds much sooner than those cars that stayed without AC.
