# 1 is very likely, although # 2 is possible. The rubber sealing rings are not 
a possiblilty for gas leaks.

Replace the short hoses even though they have already been replaced earlier. 
You should use 5/16" hose and worm gear hose clamps as the OE VW clamps will 
not fit over the 5/16" hose OD.

Hose problems are common after the hoses have been disturbed. The hose lining 
gets hard with time and engine temps, and cracks when it is flexed. At least 
the cure is straightforward.
