Sounds pretty reasonable, but remember that we recently discovered that the 
dual carbs must have varied over the years in the vacuum ports they came with.

This sounds like a perfect way to do it if you have stock carbs which came with 
a dual advance dist, but I wouldn't expect it to work if your carbs were early 
ones made to work with a vacuum only dist.
