You can do almost anything you like with them. The only things to be careful of are the ends that are at the CD connector at the rear of the car. Many of these wires run to something that is "live" on the other end, so if you shorted them to ground, or to each other, you would likely blow a fuse or there would be confusing symptoms in the electrical system. I usually just leave them there.
