I don't know, it depends. On the one hand I can see all of your points, and on the other, when I think of how much it would cost for me to have my own car restored to just leak-proofed, welded, rust repaired, re-sealed, sand blasted and repainted condition, $6500 suddenly doesn't seem too over-expensive to avoid the hassle. I mean, buying my car at $1200, plus the costs of keeping it running, plus restoration would take me more than there anyhow. Things are pricey in NYC. As for stories, I've met tons of people, all of whom seemed to have had a favorite uncle who drove a squareback.
