AaronC=> Is this right? => VW Fact#212: The 1966 Type 3 Ghia was first the first => stock VW to have a maximum speed of 90 mph. This agrees with the specs in Without Guesswork, and is consistent with the Type 34's lower weight and better aerodynamics. As for the number itself, this refers to a stock single-port dual-carb 1600 under neutral conditions; I don't doubt that earlier Type 3s can go faster under favorable conditions or with modification (don't leave out modern radial tires, for instance), but I'll assert that given the same conditions or mods, a 34 will be capable of another 6-10mph.
