Most everything above has been discussed on the list at least once.
;) A first draft at some of these topics could be produced by pasting
together or synthesizing list threads.
as a suggestion from the software world, a FAQ system that allows
quicky entry of question/answers could be a great way to "grow" content
quickly by taking it from the mailing list as a typical topic flows by.
I think that the biggest portion of this task is not so much
technical, but rather coordinating the efforts of contributors.
Another approach might therefore be to develop documentation by using
a tool that allows listees to edit documentation on-line -- maybe
something like a WikiWiki Web (http://c2.com/cgi/wiki) or maybe a
little more structured.
we use wikis internally in our company for documentation and i have to
say as a user that i cannot stand them. i call them "content mass
graves" because they are very unstructured and it is hard to find what
you are really looking for. on the other hand they do make it very easy
for the administrator to put content in. i think wikis are great if the
"body" of content you are trying to capture is not large *and* control
is centralized. centralized control in this case means that people
should be able to edit content online, but only the admin can add or
remove pages.
