No I don't!  It works for me too.
Jim, that tape measure is still retracting from full out (10 feet) and it must
be at least 3 months since I dosed it with WD40.

Maybe the stuff we get this side of the Atlantic really works?

I suggest it replaces the lighter components of the old oil that have been lost.
Due to partial pressures, it doesn't evaporate as fast when in solution with the
heavier components as it would on its own.
A classic method of getting long-case ('grandfather') clocks running again is to
put a small container of kerosene in the case - the fumes keep the oil from
thickening.  WD40 is largely kerosene I believe.
