It's been a > few years since I last saw a Variant on the road here. > I find the lack of Type 3s on the roads over here (Israel) mystifying. Since I have become interested in old VWs I have seen perhaps five or six of them; two Variant panel vans, a couple of regular Variants (one of which is being restored, 2 fastbacks (one of which is a timewarp low-mileage FI AT US-spec car that spent almost it's whole life in a sealed customs warehouse), and a nice notch.I know of a few others, but haven't seen them. I have seen FAR more Type 14 Karmann Ghias on the roads. I have actually seen as many Type 34s as I have regular Type 3s. And yet years ago they were common. Many people that I have spoken said they had one, or their father or grandfather did. There were also Brazilias on the roads over here in the late seventies. I haven't seen one for years. Someone was advertising a "1975 Variant" in a classified ad recently, but I never called them to ask what it was. I suspect they were all driven into the ground and scrapped, as they were considered utility vehicles. And as the Variant was by far the most common type, they all vanished.
