I've got the engine out of my '68 in preparation for replacing the heads. I noticed that there's a place on the top of the case that looks like it should have a stud or bolt and nut on it. Let me try to describe which one this is. On the top of the engine at the seam between the two halves of the crankase there are 5 places for studs or bolts. The one with no stud or bolt is the second on from the flywheel end. I shined a flashlight in the hole. It goes straight through and has no threads so I assume a bolt goes in here. My questions are: What sort of bolt goes here? Isn't this one of the bolts that has to be torqued in sequence for the crankcase halves to be properly mated? If it is - what do I do next?
