I've never seen this either, but I share your concern. This is a carbed engine, isn't it? If so, check to see if the brass throttle pump nozzle is still there in your left carb. I hear that these get swallowed occasionally and make their way thru the engine.... Otherwise, I've heard that some mechanics, while adjusting the valves, will grab the tops of the valve springs with a large pair of pliers, or channellocks, and see how far they will wiggle, up & down and left & right. This is a way to get some idea of valve guide wear. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
