I pulled my plugs today to do a routine compression test. All were a little sooty, but no.3 had what looked like tiny little bright brassy curly bits, like swarf from a very fine broaching or something, in amongst the soot. I'm talking pretty microscopic here! I can't think where they could have come from except perhaps the valve guides, but why would the valve shaft start scraping swarf from the guide like that? Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Its kind of worrying- I'm thinking perhaps a crack in the stem thats sharp and gradually shaving down the guide? Other than that though, oil was deposit free and compression up around 130 on all but 3 which had 120+.
