I opened the filler plug again and only a little bit more oil dribbled out. I doubt if it was really full of ATF so hopefully that is a sign of a slow leak. I opened the drain plug. Whatever it was that came out was reddish brown. There was a pile of sludge on the drain plug but thankfully no cogs or big bits of metal. I put the drain plug back in but for some reason couldn't get it to screw all the way in. I didn't want to put too much force on it, so I just tightened it as far as I could with my short ratchet (I started it off with my fingers so I didn't cross-thread it). There are still a couple of threads exposed. Is that OK? I needed the long handle to get it out but it seemed excessive to use it to get it back in again. I filled the diff with GL-5 till it started spilling out. When I put the fill plug back in there was a little puddle of oil on the floor under the car. I could feel the oil inside with my finger when I closed it up. I used a funnel on a long hose to fill it. Isn't gravity great? I took a chance and moved the car so that it wasn't parked over the puddle, so that I can see if it leaks any more. It felt as normal. No horrible howls or sounds of rending metal. It was a pretty anxious moment when I put it into reverse. How about if I just carry on as usual. I can't really drive it further than round the block anyway (I've only driven the car 6km since I've had it!), since it's not tested and licensed yet. After a month or so of this I'll open it up again and see what comes out. Does that make sense?
