The temp sensor is certainly ONE possibility, but not the only one. I'd be hesitant to make a diagnosis this quickly, although I'd certainly be able to fix it if I could get my hands on it for a day. ;-) And you're right, this is NOT the way they all are, nor is it "right." You can do much better. > As for whether we want a temp sensor cyl head or crankcase -- we really do > not know -- is there a difference. Thanks. 7-5 shows the cyl head temp sensor. 7-7 shows the crankcase temp sensor. The cyl head sensor is much more likely to fail. > Also what is the price difference between the new vs. used. About $15 vs $25. If your 69 still has it located in the original location (as shown in the photo), then this is hard to get at and a lot of trouble to replace if you're not experienced at this. If this is not your problem, then it will be just a waste of your time and money, but you CAN test it. Look at the testing proceedure in that chapter and see the resistances shown for that sensor. Get an ohmmeter and check yours out. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
