The pushrods really aren't very well centered in the pushrod tubes, so using anything with a thicker than stock wall is likely to rub and wear. Even the stock tubes need to be installed with care to make sure that the pushrods don't rub on them. Any rubbing will cause wear particles to get into the oil which will cause wear elsewhere in the engine. I've used the alum emergency pushrod tubes on occasion and had to file clearance in them for the pushrods. I didn't think much of them as a solution for anything. If you're really interested, pull your rocker shafts out sometime and pull out the pushrods one at a time. Look for a band of bright metal somewhere near one end of the rod. If you find these you know that your pushrod has been rubbing. Sometimes this is caused by a bent pushrod tube (which can wear a hole right thru the tube) and sometimes the static clearances are fine, but at high rpm the rods will flex enough that they will rub. YMMV. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ List info at http://www.vwtype3.org/list | mailto:gregm@vwtype3.org
