Here cars newer than 2 years (I think) only have to be tested once a year, and all others are 6 months. Same thing with modifications here, any modifications to the vehicle structure or major suspension mods etc. are supposed to be certified. The silly thing is, a lot of the bigger testing centres don't know how to check old VW's. I only take my cars to be tested at my VWFLAPS, I have had a 1302S pass, with the front ball joints with about 1.5cm of flop in it, and another where the seatbelts didn't even work. Apparently they are getting tough on that sort of thing now, I think they have had quite a lot of accidents related to things not checked properly, and the testing centres can be held liable if a car has an accident and it is something that should have been checked.
