The car was only two years old at the time and passed with no trouble. It was mostly lights, brakes and emissions, but there were other things. Since then, I've found out that you can take the car for it's service, and pay the garage to take it for the test (which is done at special testing centers), and so that's what I've done since then. I understand from other old-car owners that with older cars you find out just how many things do get tested, that would not be an issue with a new car. They are also very strict about modifications from stock spec. Virtually any modification has to get an engineer's certificate before it will be allowed on the road. The test doesn't cost as much as that here, but in England it costs more, IIRC.
