I spent a lot of time w/ some 6V and 12V gauges, a 12V power supply, some resistors, and a multimeter. Through trial-and-error, and some reasonable estimates, I installed an additional internal resistor in a 6V gauge that seems to help it perform reasonably well in my 12V car.
