New heads with these are said to be available, but they're hard to find. Also, the new heads will have different combustion chamber shape, to lower the compression ratio, which might actually be a good thing. > Also, I've got a pair of T1 heads that I could have rebuilt. Any > problem with putting them on or are T3 heads significantly different? Remember you need the temp sensor boss if your car is FI. MANY MANY VWs now have random sets of heads on them. VW made changes to the chamber shape over the years and using a non-matching set of heads will make it impossible to tune your car well, with different compression ratios on the two sides of the engine. Whatever you do, make sure that the two sides match, and don't ever trade your not-too-bad heads in for a pair of "rebuilt" heads. You may just be exchanging your troubles for someone elses. There were LOTS of variations in the heads over the years. Once you trade your old heads across the counter, it's too late to complain, "But I need the ones with the boss, and the step, and the rocker box breathers!" When your correct heads are gone, they're gone forever. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
