MartinG=> it looks to me as if the engine => is timed for #3 instead of #1. The timing marks will line up the same for #3 and #1. You'll want to find out which one you're timing for, simply by looking at the rotor and identifying the plug it's firing. Wrong positioning of the distributor drive is not uncommon in Type 3 rebuilds, as is wrong positioning of the distributor. Don't worry about the mark on the rim, it doesn't matter to the engine, and don't rely on it until you're sure everything is put together properly. => When I turn the pulley to get the engine to => the point where #1 fires the marks don't line up. The point where #1 fires is your actual timing point at idle, and as I said it should be the same as for #3. If you're seeing a completely different point on the pulley than you do with #3, something's way out of whack. First recheck your observation. You're working with dual carbs, right?
