Ken , sounds like you have gotten confused on the procedure of adjusting the valves, did the car run fine before you started, if so ,turn the engine to set the dist rotor to the #1 firing mark with the timing pulley on TDC, then adjust #1 intake & exhast valve, turn the engine with the dist rotor going counter clockwise 90 degrees to #2's firing position,timing pully BDC(180) adjust #2's valves. Turn the engine with the rotor going another 90 degrees to #3's position, timing pulley to TDC, adjust #3's valves. Turn another 90 degrees with the dist rotor pointing to #4's firing position, timing pulley BDC, adjust #4's valves. This should have you back on course, also check to make sure that the heads are not coming loose this would cause a problem adjusting the valves.
