They will all have at least one part # stamped into them, but you will probably have to wipe a lot of grease off to find them. All of them will have a 10 digit Bosch #, but only those sold thru VW will have the VW number. > He informed me that the letter at the end of the code should match the one > on the ECU. It's possible that someone has changed everything out for 71 parts. The important thing is that you have a consistent set of parts. That includes the ECU, the PS, the distributor (and the temp switch for the cold start valve, if yours is still connected and you are in a cold climate.) > What is the appropriate distributor for my car? MT or AT?, '72 should have a larger vacuum can with 2 nipples on it: vacuum advance AND retard. > Can someone give me a URL that has this info? Get a Bentley manual. It is the only manual that tells how to properly time this engine. It also has the distributor info for each year. Volkswagen Official Service Manual Type 3 Fastback and Squareback 1968-1973 published by Robert Bentley, Cambridge, Mass, 1974 ISBN 0-8376-0057-X / LPV 997 383 / VSQU (excellent book, complete and well written) There's no better internet source for this info than this email list. -- ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
