I don't know about the 67, but in all the later locks the return spring is in 
the electrical part, not the lock part. You might contact Gabriel's VW lock & 
key, as they do a lot of this work and would know for sure. If the spring is in 
the lock part they may be able to fix it. If not, they may have some advice.
