Well, it certainly doesn't seem to be overheating, as described in a
previous posting. When the engine is properly warmed up (something that
hasn't happened very often before) I get an amazingly crisp and stable idle,
like nothing I've seen before.

I get this irrational urge to tinker. I think I should leave it alone and
drive it around some more, and only tinker when I'm certain that something
needs it.

I actually found out later that the smoke was caused by badly adjusted,
bodged linkage, and everything improved drastically when I replaced some
parts of it. I left the mixture screws in their leaner position though, and
that's why I was wondering whether I had made it too lean.
