Hi Daniel, 1 1/4 trns out sounds about how it should be by the book. I don't
know how to really tell except that you will get overheating and loss of
power if it is too lean. I was told by my MOT station that with modern gas
there will allways be some soot in the exhaust pipe so looking at that
doesn't really help (he showed me his modern motorbike exhaust to prove the
point and it was well sooty looking)

I guess you can tell some by looking at the plugs but if I run mine so that
they are clean looking I think it is too lean. With my screws set at about 3
turns out the engine seems to run OK but after a time driving in city
traffic I think it definitely over heats- lagging power and tendency to try
to stall at takeoff.

But if you are getting a smokey exhaust I would think that is definitely too
rich. I don't have a smokey exhaust even at 5 turns out so I really don't
get it. In fact I can turn the screws out even more and the power bogs down
but still no smokey exhaust so maybe it is the main jets that are wrong for
my car.

Mark
