After the generator is out of the car, the pulley nut is more accessible. Remove the nut, by finding an open end wrench that will fit the flats on the spacer behind the nut. and a use a 21mm (13/16") socket on the nut. After the nut is off, the pulley should just slide off the generator shaft. Don't mix the shims. Just put them back as they were.
