yesterday when i was asking this question i had driven my car to work, and
when i went to restart it, it was dead. so i let it sit for a while and
tried again every so often. later in the afternoon after i tried and it
didn't go i called my wife to come give me a jump. when i went to put the
cables on my bus after alreadyy hooking up the fasty, i got a quick smart
spark, so i knew immediately that that meant i was trying to hook the
cables up backwards...how could this be??
i went back to the fasty to double check my connections. i had them on
what appeared to be the right posts, however, it seems that in my hast and
excitement when i was getting the car to run, i had hooked up the battery
backwards.(!!!???!?!?!)
so i quickly changed the connections and it jumped just fine, started
right up and everything. as i was driving it home i realized a few things,
the blinkers were trying to work, the gas guage works, and the clock
seemed to work better. also the red light was on very bright and constant.
after i got home i went through all of jim tests to see what i screwed up,
the generator checked out fine, i found out that my oil sender needs
replaced, the battery was very drained from not recieving any
repleneshment from the generator(right?) ever since i hooked it up, and
the red light would still not go off. so i started disconnecting wires
from the voltage regulator one at a time while the car was running, or the
key on, i can remember which now....and the red light went off. now it
comes one like it's supposed to and goes off when it's supposed to also.
is it luck?
have you ever done this?
everything seems to be working fine now, we are going to start a new
series of test runs with the car over the next 2 weeks and see if anything
changes or improves, while i constantly monitor the charging system and
other stuff...
