I plan on building this engine myself.
Although I've only built 4 VW aircooled engines in my
life, I'm a liscensed auto tech and have rebuilt around
75 engines in my life, of various makes. True enough, I
did mess up on my first aircooled rebuild by not
getting the dowel pins and main bearings lined up
properly, but the seized crank led me to tear it back
down to correct that before I attempted to fire it. The
other three went off without a hitch, and ran a long
time after they left my posession. While I don't turn
wrenches for a living anymore, I still keep up to date
on things and good assembly techniques haven't changed
that much in the 4 years it's been since i quit
wrenching. This list has been great at refreshing my
memory since my aircooled days. Wish me luck.
