I've been tossing the ideas around in my head for a while now about either building an ultra reliable type 3 engine or transplanting the type 4, which we all know that even beyond it's difficult installation, is a far superior engine as far as durability goes. The notion of leaving the little Fastback with a type 3 engine in place has been gnawing at me since I bought the type 4. If I am going to leave my fastback with a type 3 powerplant in place, I'd like it to be damn near bullet proof, but yet remain in stock basic configuration. Truthfully, it would not remain *entirely stock*. I would like to add 34PDSIT venturis and jets, a nice aftermarket extractor system and maybe a VERY mild webcam. Just a tiny bit more "oomph" is what I'm after. I don't need a street racer, but it would be nice to merge into Albequerque traffic without getting creamed up my back bumper by a semi. My plan is this: (1)New AS41 Universal Case (2)Welded .10/.10 counterweighted crank (3)WebCam "86" Grind with matching Johnson lifters. (4)Rimco Rebuilt Connecting Rods (5)Kolbenschmit Main and Rod Bearings (6)Schradek blueprinted oil pump (7)Berg Full flow system. (8)Mahle P&C's (either 85.5's or machine-in 88mm) (9)OEM VW heads with 3 angle valve job, port match, mild port and polish, 40mm by 35.5mm valves, with solid rocker shafts on OEM rockers (10) OEM 32PDSIT carbs with 34PDSIT jets and venturis. (11) Extractor exhaust system with single glasspack. (12) OEM Bosch 1967 distributor I would like anyone with an interest to comment on this, as to any mistakes I'm contemplating, etc. This engine must last 100k miles and be reliable enough to drive cross country, without stopping every 1,000 miles to make adjustments. Anyone feel free to comment, please Marc 1967 Fastback Is your boss reading your email? ....Probably Keep your messages private by using Lycos Mail.
