this is what i used for my tach, i think it is their standard tach. mine only had four or five wires, and they are covered here.

red - switched power from fuse block
white - i hooked to the ill. from the clock, so it dims with the dash knob.
green - negative side of coil
black - ground

I was wondering if anyone has a VDO tach on their ride, and if so could you
please tell me how it's wired. It's a newer tach but the directions are for
a different unit and the web-site for vdo didn't have it either. It has
three connectors where there is space for 8. I have tried combinations of -
side of coil,ground, and ign. power with no results. Could some use the +
side of the coil?
