John, Everything you've done sounds like you've done it carefully and correctly. When I log in tonight I hope to get a message from you indicating that you found the <simple> problem and it is all fixed. If you haven't, here are some more thoughts. You've probably already been all thru these. Carb: any chance that there is dirt in a jet somewhere that is limiting the amount of fuel that can get thru? I don't see how this would affect #3 more than #4, however. Ignition: You said that there is spark to each plug. I assume you checked this with an inductive timing light on each SP wire. Is there any chance that the spark is getting sidetracked between the wire and the plug itself? I've seen cracked bakelite SP connectors which let the spark flash back and out along the rubber air seals to ground. This was also hard to find. Valve train: I think you've cleared this up pretty much. Pistons: Any chance that the big end of the rod has come loose and is letting the piston not move smoothly? Any sign that the piston has been hitting the head, like the engine that Russ showed us in Iowa? - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
