<x-charset iso-8859-1>Had one of those days yesterday... It started out pretty good. I called a local localsmith about getting a key cut to a code for a 73 Square that I am looking at (that is another story, that might have a happy ending this weekend) that is missing the ignition key. Anyway, they had the blank and the code card and could cut the key for me for $19.15. Cool. So pushing my luck a bit, I asked about cutting an extra set of keys for my '66. Sure enough they had one blank of each and would cut the keys from my originals for $2 each. Great! So a short trip to the locksmith and I walk out with two keys for Sophy (that both work) and a key for the '73. I go home, take the original keys off my key ring, and replace them with the new keys. I put the 73 key on the opposite end of the two piece ring so that I dont foget it when I go to look at the car this weekend. So far so good. I go work on a friends house last night for a few hours and then go out to Sophy and try to start her up. Can't get the key in the ignition. I try and try. I get out my little flashlight in the dark and check out the ignition switch. Looks like the key should go in. Maybe a bit of brass stuck in there. Nothing looks like it is missing from the key. I take the key off the ring and try it. Nope. I wiggle it a round abit and SNAP the first 1/4" or so of the key off in the ignition. NO!! What is going on? I get my needle nose pliers out and pull the broken part out of the lock. Now what? I call my neighbors to ask about grabbing the originals off the hook in my house and running them down to me. I get there answering and leave a message. Disgusted with myself, I toss my keys onto the passenger seat. They land on a spot lit by a streetlight. There, still on the key ring is the new set of keys for Sophy! I tried to use and broke the key for the 73! DUH-OH. My neighbor called just as i was reaching for my cellphone to call and tell them to never mind. 8^) I put the RIGHT key in, started her up, and drove home. Now I have to get another key cut for the 73. Hoping they can do it from the two pieces I have instead of from the code. More on the 73 later. Thanks for listening.
