We just lowered a 57 oval at work for a client, adjustable front beam, 3 splines at the rear. Front beam clears the road by almost 90mm now. When we put it back together, the ball joint angles were extreme and the car had dreadful bump steer and may not have received certification (required for any modifications before legal for road use in New Zealand). We sent the spindles out to a ships engineer and he inverted the ball joints, using 1500 Beetle parts (different size). The result is excellent. The car has nearly no bump steer and the tie rod angles are as if it were standard height. The certifying engineer was very pleased with the approach we had taken. I realise that the Type 3 front end is different, but can this approach be taken here?
