> I think the "111" in the number would tell me that they are 36hp > bearings. > That's what I expected it to be too, Russ, but I was surprised to find all the Type 3 crankshaft bearing kits listed are 111-198- then 461/3/5/7/9 for the std and 4 oversizes; for a machined case -471 is std and -473 for 1st undersize. (hey, there's the uneven final digit again!) I don't know at what point in the development of the Type 3 they produced the 40hp that was the basis for the 1500 engine, but it was fitted to the 1960 Type 2 so maybe that's why it wasn't a 311 or 113 number. Certainly nothing else significant in the Type 3 engine apart from the gasket set, and crankshaft and camshaft bearings seems to start 111-, just springs and odd seals etc. While trawling the parts book, I found a kit contents description list for replacing the crankcase, including dipstick and oil-pressure switch plugs, various studs, oil pressure control valves and springs, and an oil cooler mounting bush. Could be a useful list for someone doing that job. Dave.
