Re: [T3] Preparing for engine removal - was: Questions concerning fuel injection

Hugh
Take your tank to a radiator repair house they can submerse it in there acid
tanks and remove all the rust for you. Make sure you remove the entire
connection, wire screen sock and sender unit etc first. Don't let them talk
you into lining the tank with the coating it is not necessary. Just the
presence of clean gasoline in the tank will prevent further rusting. When
you reinstall the tank make sure your overflow hose etc. are intact and not
leaking to admit water. Adding heat, which is simply denatured alcohol
periodically absorbs any residual water in the tank also. I burn E10 ethanol
most times, which also helps displace moisture. But the Putz runs much
better on premium fuel. Don't forget to replace your fuel filter at this
time as it will not pass water too well and is most likely contaminated.
This service should cost you about $ 50.00 at most.

fuel injection

Well, well, well.

You learn something new every day. It looks like the reason that my car was
conking out is the same reason the fuel gauge stopped working. There is a
significant amount of rust in my gas tank. I didn't expect that to be the
case, but it is. There is about a cup worth of rust down there and a big
clump of it attached to the screw on the bottom of the sending unit.

1) Anyone know a place I can get a T3 gas tank? These seem hard to come by.
Is there any recommendable alternative to replacement?

2) Any advice on how to deal with a fuel injected system that's gotten rust
in it?

3) Any advice on repairing the sending unit? Can I avoid getting a new one?

As always, I genuinely appreciate any and all help.
