Not that I'm aware of, but a good thing to do would be to replace the fuel
filter, looking at the old one might give you an idea of the extent of this
problem. The only thing else I would think of doing is checking the fuel
injectors to make sure that they are clean and the spray is good.

Wow, it sucks that you have to pull the engine just because of a couple
bolts and a nut. If you haven't tried everything already, do. I usually end
up using Liquid Wrench for nuts, and tapping with a hammer for bolts. I
remember one time I had to cut a slot in a bolt head with an angle grinder
so I could use a flat-headed screw to turn it... and it worked. If you're
going to pull the engine, you may want to think about replacing other seals
etc. that are hard to get at while you're at it.

Not sure what problems you may have. When I had to pull the engine on my
auto T3 the torque converter wasn't pulled out super easily. I do know that
you will have to use a strap to support the tranny bellhousing because
otherwise the tranny will pull on your CV joints without the engine holding
it up. I made one by cutting a 2x4 to fit accross the hole for the engine
lid and by tying a strong rope to it so that the rope supported the tranny.
