Last time I pulled the engine it was because the head on 3 & 4 was loose. I tightened it up and things improved a bit but not much. Although one of the studs was a bit wiggly, they all tightened up ok. I think I will do as you suggested. On the subject of rocker shafts, what are the seals under the shaft around the posts for? The studs are blind and I can't see how you would lose oil through there. What I didn't do, and I'm kicking myself for now, is lapping the cylinders into the heads. Maybe that is the problem?
