What is the fix if it is a problem? I don't know much about > CV joints. Jack up the rear end on level ground with jackstands and release the parking brake. Crawl under there and grab an inner CV joint with one hand and its wheel with another. Turn the wheel back and forth and see if the inner CV joint follows it exactly, or with a little play. In general a little play is okay, more is worse. Defining "a little" is difficult. While you're under there, grab the axle and yank it side to side (axially) several times. Check to see if everything moves smoothly or are there clanks and grinds. At the same time spin each axle all the way around several times and inspect the boots. Wires that are allowed to hang down and rub on the boots will rather quickly wear thru them. A CV joint with a torn boot will quickly accumulate the dirt that it needs to wear itself out; those with intact boots will last almost forever. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, E-mail to: <type3-off@vwtype3.org> For more help, see http://vwtype3.org/list/
