The torque must be done cold, because the studs tighten up as the engine warms up. Thus, the stress on the threads may have finished stripping that one stud over a few warmup cycles. The rocker studs really aren't blind, but the bottom ends can be hard to find. I agree, however, that those seals probably never do much.
