Re: [T3] Welding/Sheetmetal question
<x-flowed>I only learned to weld after starting my Notchback restoration. I first
purchased an 80 amp gasless MIG welder and then picked up a 100 amp DC TIG
setup. Between the 2 the TIG is much harder (requires a steady hand and
the welder can be adjusted both for max current and for max current pulse
duration) but the MIG is easier to pull out and weld when ever I want to
not to mention that you don't have to get your Argon bottle refilled for
the MIG welder. Luckily I have a professional TIG welder in our VW club
and he has given many a 'class' on welding to the club.
As a suggestion to the amateur welders out there, pick up a welding helmet
with the variable shade auto-darkening glass. The less you have to mess
with while welding the easier it is to weld and do a pretty good weld joint.
