I agree with your thinking, but my experience is that the sealed beam headlights last for decades, so it's really not an important issue. Most people don't own a car long enough to replace a headlight. An unrecognized advantage of sealed beams is that the reflector is sealed too, so it doesn't degrade with time. My experience is limited, but the only non sealed beam headlight I've seen was a Lucas, whose bulb long outlasted its reflector. Although the bulb was fine, the light output was almost worthless. Dave, did Britain not get sealed beams? For those of you outside of the US, which of you have sealed beams?
