<x-charset iso-8859-1>Hi Bryan, I was the one that mentioned the needle bearings in the front beam as I had problems a few years back with my Type 3 not driving/braking straight as it had a collapsed bearing and damaged bearing housing. This surprisingly didn't give a metal on metal sound though. Check all the items that the others have mentioned as it's more likely to be something caught up or a wheel bearing about to give up. This'll sound obvious but check the pads aren't completely worn as this will be metal grinding on metal too. cheers, Dan '73 Fastback ---- Subject: [T3] So is it Bearings? Someone (sorry can't remember who and the message is on my home machine) said I should check the needle bearings in the beam? Okay, well I'm sure this will tell all: What prompted my brake question is the high pitch squeal that started coming from the front DS tire area. Today though, it has changed to a low-pitch grinding (like metal on metal) with the occasional squeal. This is while NOT applying the brakes and does it especially at low speeds, and slight (5 or so degree) turns. That would be bearings, right?
