If it is actually making a loud sound, it is more likely a stone caught between 
the brake backing plate and the back of the rotor. Jack it up and spin the tire 
while you listen. If that is all it is, you can usually just pry the stone out with 
a screwdriver.

Stones here can make really disconcerting sounds!
