This is only true if you don't think that disk space costs anything and don't care what kind of overhead takes place behind your back. It's a common approach for those who are impressed with bells and whistles. Straight text passes information extremely well, although pictures are often helpful. Learning how to express yourself with words is a useful skill to have for anyone, and learning at a keyboard can force you to practice this in a way that allows for you to correct your work before it leaves your hands. My work computer is on an ethernet connection so it is plenty fast, but at home I have a 56k dialup connection that never connects faster than 48k. Under these conditions, I really don't want to get involved with something that requires hours of download time, or that I be actually logged on to participate. I am often annoyed by web sites that have so much clutter that it takes minutes to download. I'm usually actually trying to get information. Although I readily admit that some of the stuff is really cute, it actually slows down the transmission of information and frequently seems to be there in lieu of any actual content. The mission of this email list seems to be the transmission of actual information related to type 3 VWs. Given that, I'd say that the system we now have is really quite good. I thank Greg for pushing this approach and making it work. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
