I dont think this would be really awful, I didn't think that sensor had much effect (this is the upper one that is plugged into the intake air distributor, right?) So I'm actually surprised that it makes the difference for you. OTOH, is there any chance that you have unplugged something else which you have mistaken for the air temp sensor?
