The FI can be daunting for the novice to troubleshoot, but there is plenty of help available from this list. You'll need a volt/ohmmeter, a knowledge of basic electricity, and a copy of the Bentley manual. Intermittent problems like this can be hard to pin down, but there are 2-3 rather common causes for this kind of symptom. They almost always have solutions which are cheap or free. Parts are available either new or used. Obviously used are cheaper. Putting a type 1 engine in these is not a practical option. The cooling airflow is completely different, so type 1 engines in type 3 cars rather quickly die from overheating. - Jim Adney jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, WI 53711-3054 USA ------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe? mailto:type3-request@vwtype3.org, Subject: unsubscribe
