[T3] gen problems

<x-flowed>i checked the brush holders....and everything was fine.....
i hooked my battery up to my mothers gmc tracker and it did the same 
thing.....major RPM drop and overheated the alternator.......

and i took the bat from the truck and put it in my car and everything is 
fine....

i hooked my amp meter to the red wire after the batt and it read 6 
amps....and then i hooked it up to the red wire after the alt and it was 
over 40 amps!.......

so the amps where not being drawn from the batt, but put into it? or sucked 
from the alt?
i dont know much about whats going on.....
