<x-charset iso-8859-1>Jacob wrote, When the transmission gets warm the car can't get off the line to save itself. ========================================================= Have you replaced the tranny fluid several times now or is it the same stuff that has been in there for a long time ? I change mine at every other oil change or bimonthly or every 10000 miles for heavy driving or 6 months for light diving . I use semisynthetic. I drive alot as you can notice. I had my torque converter rebuilt for 125 bucks, (did this twice due the wrong glandnut installation) My autotranny has never broken down, only the diff gave me problems because the previous owners did not add any lube to it and my not have been GL-5 , it was almost empty but I did notice new axil seals. I think I am the 6th owner and have a good pile of receipts from the car, (lots of college students ?). What I did notice is that the tranny fluid was replaced regularly by some owners, that counts for longetivity and has never been rebuilt but I did replace all of the 'O' rings when I swapped diffs (dry as an old desert bone now). By bogging, you mean the engine slows down, loaded or the engine moves but the car doesn't, like a slipping clutch ? Autotranny's do not make the car as fast as a stickshift at the start but do give the car a higher top speed because of the final drive ratio of 3.65:1 vs 4.00:1 and if you put smaller tires on the stick tranny , you will have a top speed of 60 mph and get even worse gas mileage than you have now. A fiend of mine has a very sweet lowered car that has a top speed of 60 mph with the engine zooming. I cruised at 95 mph this early morning for a few minutes, people think my car does not look like it cannot go to the fast lane because it looks frumpy (uncool Elmer Fud look) and is a little above the stock height with stock tires. Had to slow down to 80-85 mph because my head bolt temp got to 410 degrees. I only have a 1600 cc eng . If you wish to improve mileage with a stickshift tranny and smaller tires, get a new higher diff gear , will cost you though Are you sure that the bogging is just your engine not pushing it ? I had that problem and it felt like I was towing something big back there. Fixed the EFI and it changed everything . My higher rpm cam that I have now gives me slow low end takeoffs but good mid range, the stock gave me low end power and jack rabbit takeoffs, next cam will be very low end to prevent me from going to an occasional 100 mph. (the machine shop was supposed to give me a stock hydraulic cam and gave me a perfomance cam ground by Snieder Cams ). If your cam is the high RPM type your car will feel bogged during takeoffs , leave the performance cams with the standard tranny unless you have a race torque converter or a jumbo piston engine. Fix the EFI, can you swap parts with a same year stock car in your area that runs well ? That way you can find the problem quicker ? By bogging, you mean the engine slows down, loaded or the engine moves but the car doesn't, like a slipping clutch ?
