I'll bet it's way less than 10A. I define normal to mean with you IN the car with the doors closed, driving down the road with the volume set at a level you can expect to enjoy for a long period of time without earplugs. If you spend a lot of time parked with the radio playing, the generator won't put out anything useful at idle. Then you'll certainly need the charger periodically. 10 W average power in a normal room will seem quite loud, louder in a car because it's smaller. A good solid state amp can put this out with only a couple of amps input. If you belong to the goldenears group then you may like to waste energy with a class A amp and double the energy it takes to do this (we all know the energy crisis is just a conspiracy anyway,) so make that 4A. Want to make sure the neighbors can hear you coming from 2 blocks away, add a subwoofer under the car somewhere (it's WAY too loud if I put it IN the car) and double the power again. Gee, now we're all the way up to 8A. The 40A capacity is nice, but its there for headroom, not for continuous use. Your generator doesn't much care about your peak music loads, just the average. Now I hope most of you can appreciate the humor in this, but just for a moment consider this one serious question. If you think you are doing everyone a favor by broadcasting your music to them, then you must be assuming that you're all in agreement with your choice in music. If this is the case then you should be happy to let any of them retune your radio/CD/etc to the station of THEIR choice for awhile. Would you be willing to do this? If not, then you should probably show them the courtesy of turning your radio down. I gotta admit that the rolling boom boxes are one of the really annoying bits of urban life around here, and I'm sure that my part of the world is not nearly as bad as some. It's really just adolescent boys/men hoping to stake their claim on being the local alpha male. I guess that's fair. We all went thru this at some time and Mother Nature's programming is pretty strong. - ******************************* Jim Adney, jadney@vwtype3.org Madison, Wisconsin, USA ******************************* ------------------------------------------------------------------- Too much?
